THANK YOU FLOWER VOLUNTEERS

All your hard work has produced some absolutely great comments from those that play our course. You should all be extremely proud of the effort you've put in and what has been created. If the past few years have been any indication this year's flower display will be great. We're all looking forward to the 2010 production. I'll be in contact with you when we know the dates the plants are arriving. And thanks for the hard work and dedication.

WHY DO WE AERATE ?

Inorder for a putting green to survive a golf season a healthy root system is essential. Over time both foot traffic and mowing equipment compact the root zone making growing conditions extremely poor. And in the case of our small greens the situation becomes that much worse. Nutrient and water movement is reduced creating a negative impact on the root system, making the turf more susceptible to disease, heat and drought stress. Aeration creates spaces in the turf and soil allowing for enhanced water movement and gas exchange, both essential for proper root growth. It is also an oppurtunity to reduce thatch in the putting surface. In our particular case we also use the process to ammend our less than ideal soil structure by introducing sand into the root zone.

Have You Bought Your Sprinkler Head Yet?

Yes its true we are going ahead with the irrigation system replacement beginning in the spring of 2010. Obviously this is a huge project which will cost a substantial amount of money to complete. Fortunately the City of North Battleford has been very generous and agreed to contribute financially to the project and we are extremely grateful. But there remains a large portion of the project to be payed for by those that use our facility aswell as the general public. With that in mind, 2010 will see the continuation of our fund raising efforts and specifically the selling of sprinkler heads. The decision to go forward with the project this spring was largely based on the anticipation that the generosity of last year, particularily sprinkler sales, will carry on into this season. So then, if you haven't yet made your purchase and you need that tax receipt nows the time. We really are counting on everyone contributing to this huge project and the future success of our facility.

For details on how you can make your purchase of a sprinkler head contact the office at (306)937-5656 during normal business hours.

DONATE TO IRRIGATE

And Speaking of the Irrigation Installation

During the installation of our new system there will be a large amount of marker flags and stakes out on the course. They are necessary and extremely important to insure a efficient and successful installation. Please do not tamper with or move any. Aswell, be cognizant of them and do not drive over them. If your ball comes to rest against one, please move your ball not the marker. I'm sure the proshop staff would be more than willing to cite the proper ruling for various situations. I can't emphasize the importance of the marker's accuracy enough.

At times it will be necessary to shorten holes or close entire holes for a short period of time. Please obey all directional signs and play from the proper tee markers regardless of where they may be placed.

Aswell, lets stay clear of any constuction equipment. The machines and the staff around them take priority. Lets use our heads and ensure everyone can work in a safe enviroment. Again move your ball if necessary.

The fact of the matter is the more we cooperate and allow the contractor to move along  in an efficient manner the sooner he can complete the project. Lets all do our part.
