Expensive Balls Aren’t For Everyone

All golfers are different, and a touring pro puts more demand on the performance of a ball than a high-handicap  amateur does.  Some key elements to consider when using a driver, for example:

Launch angle and spin rate of the ball. They vary depending on the player’s clubhead speed. Modern golf balls are designed for high launch with low spin to get maximum distance.

Clubhead speed, or how hard a player hits the ball. That dictates the degree of launch angle and the amount of spin needed. Generally, the higher the clubhead speed, the lower the launch angle and the less spin.  Slower clubhead  speed requires a higher angle and more spin.

Most recreational golfers have a wider range of skills, but at 100 mph their best conditions are 2800 rpms at 10-12 degrees  of launch angle. Really slow speeds, such as 80 mph, get their best drive from an angle of 14-15 degrees with a rate 2800 rpms.

The spin is critical to the flight of the ball. To get the maximum out of each shot, it must not spin too much or too little.

Stop by the pro shop and we can setup a ball fitting session for you to find the best ball suited for your game.
